About Duncan Atwood:
The U.S. national javelin champion in 1979, 1980 and 1987, Atwood set a UW javelin record of 280 feet, 8 inches, and placed third at the 1978 NCAA Championships to earn one of UW's 37 All-America awards in the javelin all-time. After earning his bachelor's degree in kinesiology in 1978, Atwood began a 10-year international professional career, winning three U.S. javelin titles and earning a high world ranking of third, in 1985. Atwood returned to the University of Washington to earn his MBA in marketing in 1986 before embarking on a career in coaching. In addition to his work at Washington, Atwood is employed as a biomechanics consultant by USA Track and Field, where he works regularly with top U.S. throwers.
